RICHARD "DICK" MOULTON - FOUNDATION
Leonard Seppala, John Johnson, and the other original importers
and breeders passed on many years ago. Those who knew them, got
dogs from them, and learned from them are now few and far between.
On May 8, 2000 we lost another of our second generation greats in the person of
Richard "Dick" Moulton. Although probably not known well to most Siberian fanciers
(though he should have been), Dick was one of our most experienced Siberian dog
drivers - ever.
Born in the center of New England "dog driving country", in Meredith, New
Hampshire, Dick was stricken early on. He often saw Seppala's team of Siberians
when they came to town in the early 1930's to race. He entered his first race at
Laconia in 1932, and raced the main Chinook team for the Seeley's in the mid to
late 1930's.
While still in high school, Dick was asked by Short Seeleyıs
husband, Milton, to work for the summer at Chinook Kennels. Summer
jobs led to a full time job after high school graduation, helping to
train dogs for Byrd Antarctic expeditions.
